Agriculture Education I is an introductory course in which the student is taken on a journey through today's modern agricultural areas including plant science, animal science, soil science and environmental technology. The student will also learn basic cold metal work, woodworking and tool conditioning. The areas of leadership, public speaking, and parliamentary procedure will also be addressed. Computers will be introduced for agricultural recordkeeping.

Agriculture Education II is designed to emphasize skills in welding, electricity, and plumbing. A comprehensive view of range science and crop science will be covered, giving the basic technological concepts associated with today's agriscience. Aquaculture and water quality will be components of this class. Computers will be incorporated with the various segments of Agriculture Education II.

In this course, students will take a more in‑depth look at computers exploring the use of spreadsheets and databases as well as using telecommunications to obtain information. Veterinary science, farm management, machinery management, surveying, and carpentry are all dealt with in Agriculture Education Ill.

Upper‑level students will develop financial planning skills and learn about agricultural economics. Students have an opportunity to use advanced skills to develop individual projects. Preventative engine maintenance, machinery management, computer application, and animal science are also included in Agriculture Education IV.
0931 HORTICULTURE AND GREENHOUSE MANAGEMENT

Students will develop an understanding of basic plant science including: plant identification, plant structure, plant health, and soils. A major portion of the class will involve using the greenhouse to grow a variety of plants, both seedlings and cuttings. Unique experiments in plant and soil science will be conducted. Students will also be responsible for propagation, horticulture care, greenhouse operation and the sale of flowers and bedding plants. The class will be limited to fifteen students with preference given to Juniors and Seniors.

Take your horticulture skills to the next level! Students will conduct advanced horticulture research, study floral design and learn greenhouse management and hydroponics. The class will use the greenhouse to grow a variety of plants, both seedlings and cuttings. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about the industry of horticulture.

Gear up for a fast paced class that will use computer technology to explore some of the most heated issues in agriculture today. Students will use different forms of media to develop their communication skills and knowledge of agricultural issues. Typical projects will include web page design, using Microsoft PowerPoint, digital photography and digital video production. Personal presentation skills and techniques will also be developed through individual and group activities.

In this course students will develop basic skills in forge work, arc welding, and oxyacetylene welding. It will include construction of small metal projects and introductory welding methods.

In this course students will develop welding skills in arc, HPG, and oxyacetylene. Students will be required to complete large metal fabrication projects, TIG and MIG welding will be stressed and students will also learn to use a plasma cutter.

Explore the world of carpentry with true application through hands on learning. Students will explore the safe operation of power tools and erect an actual building from design to final product. A major portion of the course will be taught off campus where students perform the design and construction of an actual building structure.

You will learn the basics of using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access as well as how to use Internet use, searching, file management, e-mail attachments, and desktop publishing programs. This will allow you to format reports and essays for your classes, create cover pages and flyers, practice presentation skills, and create effective spreadsheets that take the math out if it for you! A very hands-on class that will allow you the keyboarding and computer practice every successful student needs.

You will learn to use publishing programs such as Microsoft Word, Publisher, and Adobe PageMaker and PhotoShop to create eye-pleasing documents including flyers, posters, webpages, business cards, certificates, menus, and much more. You will also learn to create and manipulate graphics (photos, clip art, etc.), to use a digital camera, and to operate a scanner. You will also learn how to take your documents from your computer and prepare them for delivery to a print shop for professional printing.

You will create, format, edit letters, reports, tables, graphics, and perform merges. You will learn how to use different types of reference styles. You will learn shortcuts and software features. The scanner, Internet, digital camera, or clip art can be used to create your own animation show. View your presentation on the web. This course will teach you how to use two software programs – Microsoft Excel 2000 and Microsoft Access 2000. It is fun to create spreadsheets with charts while the program does the math for you. Then enhance your work with graphic images. Excel is a spreadsheet program that is often used for data analysis and is one of the most popular programs used in business today. Access is a database program used to store, sort, and report information vital to businesses. You will learn to access the web with both programs. You will be prepared to take the MOUS Core-level certification test for Excel and Access with this class. Knowledge of these programs is vital to students entering the work force or attending college.

Basic accounting principals are applied throughout this course. Accounting computer applications are introduced using both Microsoft Excel and Automated Accounting. Students will also participate in the Stock Market Game to enhance their understanding of the role of investing in accounting today. This course provides you with a better understanding of the growth and development of a child through pre‑school age. Units included are pregnancy, birth defects, care during pregnancy, childbirth, the infant, the toddler and the preschooler. This course will serve as an introductory class for students interested in pursuing industrial technology education and will focus on:
1) Design and Drafting ‑ Sketching orthographic and three‑dimensional views will be explored through the use of a CAD program. Students will learn and apply basic elements of design through the systematic process of turning concepts into physical representations.
2) Material Processing ‑ Students will explore the use of a variety of materials, their properties, uses, and characteristics. Students will process selected materials through the use of tools/machines. The materials will include metals and wood products.
3) Introduction to Electronics ‑ Students will study theory, circuitry, measurement, and safety of electronics.

In this class, students will learn to visualize in both two and three dimensions, which will strengthen their ability to think precisely, as well as enable them to read and write the language of drawing. They will gain experience in making and reading working drawings used in industry. Students will also gain knowledge of the computer as a drawing tool, and the commands needed to assist them in the completion of their drawings. Students will obtain experience in the operation of plotters and printers, as well as other various output and input devices used in the computer‑aided drafting field.

This course will expose students to the wonderful world of manufacturing. Through lab activities students will learn the elements of manufacturing; from the design and development of a product, through the production, to the marketing and selling of the product. Other aspects of the class will include, advertising, packaging, profit and loss analyses, and teamwork. Students will also be involved in the actual manufacturing of valued based products, which will incorporate the use of various materials, tools, and equipment. This class offers the student the ability to make some money, while at the same time the opportunity to learn some life long skills.

This class is designed for those students that want to learn more about the mechanical systems that our technical world revolves around, as well as the energy systems that power them. This is a “hands on” class where students will use tools and equipment to develop, test, and maintain various mechanical and electrical systems. Students will also be placed into different problem solving situations in which they will utilize tools, equipment, knowledge and various power systems to accomplish specific tasks. “Build it, power it, and watch it move.”

Students will have the opportunity to learn about and use a variety of different design techniques, materials, and specialized tools. Students will then use this knowledge to solve problems and to produce products.
